How to Make a Passport Size Photo Online
- Upload a clear photo. Use a recent, sharp image with even lighting and enough space around the head and shoulders.
- Choose the required preset. Select India 35×45 mm, US 2×2 inch, another preset or enter custom dimensions.
- Crop and align. Drag, zoom and rotate the image while using the optional face-position guide.
- Improve the photo carefully. Adjust brightness and contrast if necessary. Avoid beauty filters or edits that alter your appearance.
- Prepare the background. If your application permits it, clean the existing background and replace it with white or another allowed solid color.

Background Change Without Uploading Your Photo
The background cleanup feature works in your browser and is designed for relatively plain backgrounds. It identifies background colors connected to the outer edges of the image and can replace them with a selected solid color. Because official photo rules differ, use background replacement only when your issuing authority permits this type of correction.
Technical Readiness Check
The editor provides a local quality signal based on source resolution, overall brightness, contrast, background uniformity and image sharpness. This is a technical pre-check—not biometric validation and not a guarantee that a government authority will accept the photo.

Can I download only one passport-size photo?
Yes. The Download tab exports a single photo at the exact pixel dimensions selected in the preset, independently of the print-sheet feature.
Can I reduce the passport photo file size?
Yes. For JPEG and WebP output you can specify a maximum file size in KB. The tool progressively adjusts compression while keeping the selected pixel dimensions unchanged.
Can I change the background to white?
Yes. Use Smart Background Cleanup, switch to Clean + Color, and select pure white. Only do this if your application rules allow background replacement or cleanup.
Does my photo get uploaded to SmartToolsWorld?
No. The core photo editing, background processing, resizing, compression and print-sheet generation happen locally in your browser.
What size is an Indian passport-style photo?
Current official Indian mission guidance describes a 630 × 810 pixel color photograph with a white background and a close-up in which the face occupies about 80–85% of the photograph. Always verify the instructions shown in your specific Passport Seva or mission workflow before submission.
What size is a US digital visa photo?
The US Department of State specifies a square JPEG image between 600 × 600 and 1200 × 1200 pixels, with a file size no greater than 240 KB for the applicable digital-image workflow. This tool uses 600 × 600 as a convenient preset.
